The missing family
Can David Raker solve a pair of impossible disappearances?
It's a warm, sunny day and the Fowler family are heading to the water. Sara and her daughter, Mable, stay on the shore while Marc, his son and his son's girlfriend set out on the lake. Sara closes her eyes for just a moment. She has no idea she's about to wake up to a nightmare. Her husband, son, and son's girlfriend have vanished without a trace. The boat is floating empty on the water.
The police are baffled, so David Raker, a specialist in finding missing people, takes on the case. But this time, he may have stumbled upon a mystery that even he can't solve. How could three people disappear from a boat in the middle of a lake in a single minute?
And how is all this connected to an escaped murderer who vanished from a locked holding cell in a London casino? Raker turns to his friend Colm Healy for help with the investigation. He has no idea that they are both hurtling towards a darkness from which there may be no return.
Some secrets are meant to be revealed, while others... should stay buried forever.
Tim Weaver
Tim Weaver is a former journalist and magazine editor. Despite a successful career in journalism, he decided he would rather write thrillers. In Chasing the Dead, he introduced the private investigator David Raker, a specialist in finding missing persons, who subsequently became the hero of a series of acclaimed crime thrillers. Weaver's fourth and tenth novels, No Way Back and No One Home, were featured in the prestigious Richard and Judy Book Club. Weaver's books regularly appear on the Sunday Times bestseller list, and two of them, The Blackbird and No One Home, remained there for several weeks in a row. His only standalone novel to date, outside the David Raker series, is the crime thriller Missing Pieces. Tim Weaver lives with his wife and daughter near Bath in South West England.
