The Seven Forms of Lies

The seemingly peaceful atmosphere of the picturesque town of Wane in the American state of Washington is shattered by a dramatic video spreading among its residents. It shows a group of students on a bus, commuting between present-day Wane and the original “Old Wane”, abandoned after the gold rush subsided. The out-of-control bus plunges into a chasm, and everyone dies in the subsequent explosion. Seventeen-year-old Jonah, the story's narrator and one of the protagonists in the video, is certain: it's a deepfake, nothing like that ever happened. But why does the video feature their former group of friends, which fell apart a year ago due to disagreements following the disappearance of one of its members, Enya? Enya, to whom Jonah was very close, is the only one missing from the video.
Gradually, more fake videos begin to appear, in which individual members of the former group reveal their dark secrets, which the others had no idea about. As it soon turns out, these deepfakes are based on the truth. A truth that only Enya knew.
