Sometimes they are lonely, torn, and at the end of their tether, yet they fight tirelessly for those who cannot defend themselves. Sometimes unwittingly, sometimes deliberately, but always with the same goal – to bring the perpetrator to justice.
The anthology 'The Shadow System and Other Stories' presents the nine best detective stories from the first year of the “Ota Fink Award” literary competition, including the three overall winners. Oliver Jasanský, Lukáš Vlasák, Ondřej S. Nečas, Ivana Nováková and many others show how diverse contemporary Czech and Slovak crime fiction can be.
Lucie Němcová (Ed.)
Born in 1981 in Slaný, she has lived in Kralupy nad Vltavou her whole life. She studied German Language, Literature and Geography at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. Since 2004, she has been teaching at the Kralupy grammar school. She has been with Mystery Press since its foundation, and currently holds the position of deputy director with a focus on marketing & PR. The anthology *Stínový systém* (The Shadow System), which contains the winning short stories from the first year of the Ota Fink Award literary competition, is her first editorial work. Lucie Němcová's greatest hobbies include reading and travelling. She loves the sea and the mountains (but only in the summer), but most of all she enjoys seeking out gastronomic experiences.
