Touch the wounds
Essays on a Faith That Is Not Afraid of Pain
The book contains theological-philosophical meditations touching on the mystical depths of faith, as well as surprising, sharp, and at times humorous commentaries on specific events and typical features of our time.
In fourteen essays, the author draws from the gospel story of 'doubting Thomas'. The author considers ideas of God, the Church, and faith 'without wounds' to be illusions. Christian faith includes the courage to see the wounds of our world and to touch them with a faith that is itself affected and wounded by them. Face to face with the 'wounded God', one can cast off the 'armour, masks, and makeup' used to hide one's painful places from others and sometimes from oneself. The author's sources of inspiration are Christian and Jewish mysticism, the theology of the cross of Paul and Luther, contemporary postmodern philosophy and theology, the treasures of old folk Easter piety and art, and last but not least, the author's own experiences from many years of therapeutic and pastoral practice.
