Velvet wormwood

Against the backdrop of the oppressive atmosphere of the late 1980s, a story begins that will unexpectedly change the lives of the residents of a Prague apartment building.
“Please, Baby Jesus, don't let Daddy hurt that beautiful dark-haired lady,” I repeated to myself, hidden in the wardrobe with my mother's things…

One day, 25-year-old Lada hears little Alenka crying from the next flat and accuses her neighbour, a high-ranking official named Kozderka, of abusing the child. And then everything happens in quick succession. A real hell begins for Lada. At work, she is demoted to a lower position, her personal life takes a 180-degree turn, and she eventually ends up in prison.
Alenka tries to be a good daughter, a model pioneer, and a good friend, just as Lada wants to defy the misfortunes of fate and the era that influences her life more than she can comprehend at her age. The stories of Lada and Alenka soon intertwine and offer an unexpected resolution.
