War of the Roses 1: The Storm
A story of heroes and cowards, intrigue and honour, and above all, the clash of two powerful houses that forever marked the fate of England
A story of heroes and cowards, intrigue and honour, and above all, the clash of two powerful houses that forever marked the fate of England. The year is 1437, and the young Henry VI of the House of Lancaster has ascended the English throne. Unlike his father, who united the English and French crowns, he does not rule with a firm hand and, in the opinion of many lords, is too easily influenced by his advisers. England's possessions in France are under threat, rumours of rebellion are spreading, and there is fear that the king and his whisperers will bring England to ruin. The clouds are gathering, and a storm is inevitably brewing that will forever mark the fate of the kingdom.
Conn Iggulden
He taught history at the University of London for seven years before becoming a full-time writer. He has written numerous historical novels, some of which have also been introduced to Czech readers, such as the series about Genghis Khan, the life of Julius Caesar, or the Wars of the Roses tetralogy, which deals with a turbulent period in English history. In the Athenian series, of which The Warlord is the second volume, he focuses on the period of the Greco-Persian Wars. Iggulden relies on a thorough knowledge of history, yet he also knows how to construct a dramatic story and captivate readers with his impressive storytelling skill.
