In the new volume of the Brief History series, Milena Lenderová vividly describes the history of women in the Czech lands from the Middle Ages to the threshold of the 21st century, with a keen eye for detail and broader context. She summarises and explains how girls' puberty has changed throughout history, what ambitions women had when entering marriage in different eras, and how they perceived their motherhood. She offers a new historical perspective on violence against women in both public and private spaces and reflects on how female sexuality has changed over the centuries. She traces when and how women entered the labour market and universities, not forgetting those who found themselves on the opposite end of the social spectrum—female criminals.
