Daniel's death
A detective novel about the Panama Papers scandal.
Sunday 27 November 2017. Daniel Puentes, a journalist for the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio, is found dead in his Madrid hotel room. At around two o'clock in the morning, the medical examiner determines the cause of death to be a heart attack and orders the body to be taken to the morgue. The inspector quickly contacts the newspaper's editorial office, from where the terrible news is relayed to the deceased's sister. Anabela, a partner at a prominent law firm in Lima, wastes no time and immediately flies to Spain to repatriate her brother's body.
Still unable to process the news, Anabela arrives in Spain, where a colleague of Daniel's shares her suspicion that his death may not have been from natural causes and could be related to his journalistic work. Recently, a global scandal known as the Panama Papers broke, exposing tax evasion and secret offshore businesses of politicians, entrepreneurs, celebrities, and even athletes. Anabela knew her brother was involved in the investigation, but she had no idea how deeply.
With the help of a private detective, Anabela tries to uncover the truth, all while being haunted by memories of the brother she thought she knew so well. In this game of politics and money, no one is innocent.
