Benefits of Pre-Orders:The Spectrum Handheld portable games console is used to play retro games originally intended for ZX Spectrum home computers in a compact, handheld format. The black design mimics the look of the original 8-bit computer from the 1980s and runs classic titles directly on the go without the need to connect to a TV or monitor. The device works without an optical drive and relies on the digital distribution of games. Power is supplied by a built-in rechargeable battery and the picture is displayed on an integrated colour screen with controls on the body of the device.
The device includes twenty-five pre-installed classic games, including titles such as Manic Miner, Skool Daze, Head Over Heels, Starquake, The Great Escape, Archon: The Light and the Dark and Switchblade. The custom user interface displays detailed information about each game and makes it easy to save and reload current game positions. Players can interrupt and then restart a game in progress at any time, exactly where they left off. The game selection covers various genres, from platformers to puzzle and adventure titles.
The 4.3" screen uses IPS technology, which maintains colour and contrast consistency when viewed from different angles. The 840 × 480 px resolution renders sharp details of the retro graphics in their original aspect ratio without image distortion. The high-resolution display shows the game scene without unwanted blurring, even when objects on the screen are moving quickly. The display matrix provides optimal brightness for gaming indoors and outdoors in direct light.
The system supports the emulation of many versions of the original computer, including the Spectrum 16K, Spectrum 48K, Spectrum 48K (NTSC), Spectrum 128K, Spectrum +2, Spectrum +2A, Spectrum +3 and Spectrum +3e models. Users can manually change the clock frequency of the emulated computer's processor, a setting that can resolve compatibility and speed issues with older applications. The emulator accurately reproduces the behaviour of the original hardware, including specific sound and graphics modes.
The console uses a D-Pad and four main action keys made of rubber, which correspond to the design of the original systems. Four mappable function keys are used for quick function setup and emulator control according to the specific player's needs. The buttons are complemented by dedicated switches for menu return, start, select and a sliding power switch. The body of the device also features a hardware button for easy volume control of the integrated speaker.
The USB-A port on the back of the chassis is used to connect an external keyboard or a compatible joystick for more precise game control. The MicroSD memory card slot is used to upload your own game files and other titles from independent authors from the homebrew scene. Headphones or external speakers can be connected via the standard 3.5mm jack connector. The internal hardware is powered by a quad-core processor with a frequency of 1.2GHz and 256MB of DDR RAM.
The built-in 2,000mAh battery provides enough power for more than 3 hours of continuous operation on a single charge. Charging is done via the reversible USB-C interface. Operation requires a mains adapter with minimum parameters of 5V and 1A. The total weight of the device is 235g for easy carrying in a pocket or luggage.
