Originally broadcast radio features, with which Tomáš Halík addressed his listeners in the morning broadcasts of the BBC between 2000–2002, meditative reflections on significant church holidays throughout the year.

From Advent, through Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost to All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day), notes on historical events (the French Revolution, 11 September 2001) and reflections on other milestones of spiritual and civic life (the act of Jan Palach, 25 February, St. Cyril and Methodius, Jan Hus, the personality of Saint Wenceslas) are arranged in this volume according to the annual cycle. The result is a remarkable documentary statement about the moral ground plan of our lives, and about the spiritual and social atmosphere at the beginning of the millennium.
