Stories for coffee XII.

Hana Hrabáková has successfully published eleven volumes of her “Stories for Coffee” series in previous years, and this year she returns with the next instalment. The author presents readers with a complete collection of humorous texts taken straight from “real life”. The subtitle of this latest book of short stories, “How to Survive Your Own Stupidity”, hints at what the individual stories will revolve around. Mistakes, blunders, slip-ups, and misunderstandings – all these provide the basis for a series of humorous tales written by life itself. The plot unfolds during the domestic and international travels of a group of ageless ladies, as well as in the realm of interpersonal and romantic relationships. It must be said that humour, hyperbole, and often ruthless irony once again take centre stage. Hana Hrabáková knows what she is writing about – after all, she has simply given a perfect literary twist to what her readers have experienced and continue to experience themselves.

Excerpt:
“Well, it’s like this, my dears,” Andrea teased us. “He’s handsome, confident, doesn’t talk much, and when he does, it’s actually worth listening to. A two-metre-tall basketball player…”
We swallowed hard.
“Go on!” we gasped, waiting for her to continue.
“The smile and eyes of a Hollywood actor, and we didn't have sex until the second date.” Andrea puffed out her chest, awaiting our praise. “I can still feel his hands all over me,” she added, waiting for our reaction.
We stared at her, desperate to know what happened next, but Jana bluntly broke the tension: “And then you woke up!”
