Pecans have a delicate flavour and fine texture that makes you love them. But they are a huge reservoir of selenium, which protects the immune system. Pecans resemble our walnuts, but they have a different shape, are softer and sweeter. They are also related botanically, but differ significantly in their composition, especially in the content of unsaturated fatty acids. Pecans contain many times more mono-unsaturated fatty acids, which are metabolically neutral and thus not as prone to rancidity.

Pecans contain over 70% fat, with a significant proportion of unsaturated fatty acids. They are also rich in fibre, which is essential for healthy digestion, but also takes care of the heart and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. You can also find phosphorus, which is needed for healthy teeth and bones and has an effect on the growth and regeneration of cells in the body, magnesium, which has anti-inflammatory effects and helps to lower blood pressure. Last but not least, pecans also contain important antioxidants, such as the trace mineral manganese, or vitamins A and E.

Pecans have a full buttery and slightly sweet flavour that you will love in combination with sweet and savoury dishes. They are delicious in muesli and other mixtures, in homemade sweet pastries or in cottage cheese spread in combination with flavourful cheese. But you can also eat them just like that.
