In the alleys of medieval Prague and in the silver-bearing region of Kutná Hora, the wise Master Petr, the witty Jew Jakub, and the brave widow Kornelie uncover the sinister secrets of a women's convent. The mysterious death of a young nun gives the investigators no peace, and other suspicious deaths are not long in coming. This time, the suspicion leads all the way to the royal court itself. However, all their presence of mind, charm, and political scheming are not enough to fight an adversary who will stop at nothing, and the detectives unwittingly risk everything they hold dear, finding themselves in mortal danger. This detective story, told directly by the investigators themselves, draws the reader into a struggle for justice, power intrigues, and the temptation of forbidden passion.
Emma Riedová (born 7 March 1989) studied law and art history and works as a trainee lawyer. Her fascination with history and thrilling plots has been with her since secondary school, when she wrote short stories as well as shorter historical and detective tales. She put this passion to good use when writing her first historical novel, Royal Intrigue, which is set in the 14th century, and after its publication by the Book Club (2014), she quickly won the hearts of readers. Her second book, Parisian Requiem, was mainly written during the author's several-month study stay in Paris.
