The EATON UPS 5P 650iR Gen2 Netpack UPS uses line-interactive topology to protect servers, network components and data storage in rack installations. Its 1U design saves valuable space in the data cabinet. The unit delivers a true power of 520W (650VA), which is a 22% increase over the previous generation. This Netpack version of the UPS integrates a factory-installed gigabit network card, which meets cybersecurity standards and allows full remote management. ABM+ technology extends battery life, and a clear LCD display shows all operating statuses and simplifies maintenance. The load segment management function helps extend backup time for critical equipment. It includes the Eaton Brightlayer software suite, which simplifies management and supports integration with virtualisation platforms like VMware, Hyper-V or Nutanix, enabling automated and controlled shutdown of virtual machines and servers during a prolonged power outage.

Performance and efficiency in a compact 1U design

The line-interactive topology with a pure sine wave output powers sensitive electronics and servers with active power factor correction (APFC) power supplies. The EATON UPS 5P 650iR Gen2 Netpack UPS unit automatically regulates voltage using the AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) function. The system compensates for both overvoltage and undervoltage without switching to battery power, saving battery capacity for a complete outage. With up to 97% efficiency in online mode, it reduces energy loss and lowers running costs. Advanced load segment management divides the output sockets into two independently controllable groups. During a power outage, it first disconnects less important devices to extend the backup time for critical infrastructure. The segments can also be used for sequential start-up or remote restarting of individual devices.

Battery and protection

The EATON UPS 5P 650iR Gen2 Netpack UPS unit contains lead-acid, maintenance-free batteries that are user-replaceable during operation (hot-swap). Replacement does not require shutting down connected equipment. The patented ABM+ charging technology uses a three-stage cycle that only recharges the batteries when necessary, reducing their chemical corrosion. The algorithm also performs predictive maintenance to extend battery life by up to 50% compared to traditional charging methods. The system provides precise information about the recommended replacement date. Integrated protection prevents deep battery discharge. Additionally, the cold start function starts the UPS directly from the batteries without needing a mains connection.

Remote management and connectivity

The EATON UPS 5P 650iR Gen2 Netpack UPS includes a factory-installed Eaton Network-M3 gigabit network card. The card meets the strict international cybersecurity standards UL 2900-1 and IEC 62443-4-2, strengthening the protection of the network infrastructure against external threats. It allows full remote monitoring, unit configuration and secure firmware updates via a web interface. In addition to the network connection, it offers a USB (HID) port and a serial RS-232 port. Input power is supplied by a standard IEC C14 connector. Four IEC C13 output sockets, divided into two manageable segments, power servers and network components. The package also includes two IEC Jumper cables for direct connection to IT equipment.
