The Eaton 5P 650iR backup power supply is a compact line-interactive UPS, designed for mounting in a 19" rack, where it takes up just 1U of height. With an apparent power of 650VA and a real power of 420W, this backup power supply reliably protects your server and network components. At full load, it supplies power for 2.5 minutes, and at half load, it runs for 9 minutes, providing enough time for a controlled system shutdown. A pure sine wave output protects sensitive electronics from damage. The clear graphical LCD shows key operating parameters and simplifies configuration. With a low noise level of under 40dB, this rackmount UPS is also suitable for installation in an office environment.

Performance and topology

The line-interactive topology with automatic voltage regulation actively stabilises the output voltage. The power supply corrects undervoltage and overvoltage within a wide range of 160V to 294V without needing to switch to battery power. This approach protects the lifespan of the internal battery, saving its capacity for a complete power outage. The efficiency at full load is 98%, reducing energy losses. It delivers a pure sine wave voltage output, which ensures the seamless operation of servers and sensitive electronics.

Battery and protection features

The power supply is powered by a single 12V / 9Ah maintenance-free lead-acid battery. The advanced battery management technology uses a three-stage charging process that extends the battery's lifespan. The battery can be replaced by the user without professional service, even during operation, which limits downtime for connected devices. Integrated deep-discharge protection and automatic battery testing keep the battery in optimal condition. This power supply does not support the connection of external battery modules.

Management and monitoring

For communication with a computer or server, the backup power supply uses USB and RS-232 ports. Thanks to the HID compatibility of the USB port, integration with common operating systems is simpler and does not require driver installation. The power supply also includes a slot for an optional communication card for network management. The included Eaton Intelligent Power Protector software facilitates automated, safe shutdown of systems and virtual machines. Additionally, the Eaton Intelligent Power Manager software provides centralised monitoring and management of multiple UPS units on the network.

Connectivity and sockets

The output section includes four IEC C13 sockets, which are divided into two independently controlled groups. This arrangement lets you prioritise power for critical equipment and perform a controlled shutdown of less important appliances to extend the backup time. The input power is connected via a standard IEC C14 connector. For integration with industrial systems, it also offers potential-free contacts.
